In this particular case I want to select one of the flags and the selection will filter the process explorer for some activities

yes, in the Knowledge model you can determine a filter condition for each Execution gap.
this can then be passed inside views to filter components even entire Profile Views
So when you click on the Execution Gap, the Profile View that then opens up will be filtered based on what you determined in the filter statement. All you need to do is to add the process explorer component to the view that opens up.
