Hi All, as a beginner in Celonis, I am often confused with the use of Skills and Action Flow, is there any significant difference in functionality, use case or scenario? Thanks in advance!

Hi David,

Both Skills and Action Flows are there to automate workflows, tasks, and other use cases and follow the same core principle. Action Flows are a recent addition to the EMS to add more functionality and usability for automation.

Every Skill can be replicated in Action Flows, but not every Action Flow can be replicated in a Skill.

So as you already suspected, there is a difference in functionality when using Action Flows compared to Skills as Action Flows come with a lot more pre-built connectors to various systems.

I hope this answers your question!

Best regards,

Florian

Both are focused on low-code automation and integrated with Celonis core capabilities(drag&drop), but if you are starting a new implementation, I'd suggest using the Action Flow for 2 main reasons:

  1. This is the long-term feature for Celonis automation
  2. You have a lot of pre-configured automation actions in Action Flows

You can find further Action FLow training in Celonis LMS Platform

Hi David,

Skill and action flows are basically used to to automate any business process according to your needs.

Action Flow is bit more powerful in terms of added features as it help to define an automated process flow. It consists of multiple eventsdecision points and alternative routes and it can involve an arbitrary number of different applications.

There is so many pre-built connector provided in action flow to make user life easier.

You can check the course in Celonis Academy.
