Question

I want to establish on prem connection with mssql and sap for a new process.Should I use on prem client for SAP connection and db connection for mssql?Or can I use the on prem client for both connections? Should I use two separate servers?

Celonis recommends on prem clients instead of sap extractor.

Hi Aysu,

if you are trying to establish a connection to a new SAP system you should go with the new on prem clients connection. This is the official replacement of the former SAP Uplink extractor.

But please be aware that the new on prem client only supports SAP systems having RFC Module Version 3.3.0 and above!

In order to connect to data bases you need to install & setup the JDBC extractor in parallel. This cannot be managed by the on prem clients nor the SAP Uplink extractor.

So in your case you will use on prem client for SAP and JDBC extractor for MSSQL.

There is no need to make use of separate servers when it comes to SAP extractor and JDBC extractor.

Only scenario that comes to my mind is if you want to setup some sort of Sandbox / QA infrastructure. In this case it would make sense to have another extractor server available to manage the test infrastructrue and doing updates of extractors first on those systems.
