I have noticed in various contexts that Data Pool IDs can obviously change without being actively edited. For example, data pools saved some time ago have different IDs than the same current data pools in Celonis.

I also noticed that access via a workbench script no longer worked after some time because the connection to the data pool was no longer valid.

And this is exactly what describes the problem of changed data pool IDs. It leads to ML scripts no longer working.

Hence my question: When and why do the data pool IDs change? Can this be avoided?

I look forward to your explanations.

Conny

Hi @conny.brint,

Strange that Data Pool IDs change, that should not be happening. Reasons I can think of that they might change is:

  • Deleting and recreating the data pool.
  • When you migrate data pools.

Instead, try to use the Data Pool names instead of ID? I do see that is an option. data_pool - PyCelonis

Hi @sverre.klein11 ,

That makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, the data pools were not recreated, migrated or touched.

I would really like to understand this behavior in order to be able to work with it in a meaningful way.

Conny

Hi Conny,

I have not yet experienced something like this but never say never.

Are you using Audit Log (and hopefully do not delete it too fast)?

If so you can download the Audit Log from some time back and filter on EVENT column for DATA_POOL_CREATED; DATA_POOL_UPDATED etc.

There you can check the Data Pools with it's IDs and maybe identify a pattern when the IDs have changed.

In parallel I recommend to create a ticket and ask Celonis support how this can happen.

Hi Conny,

I also never experienced a change in Data Pool ID without manual intervention. I hope for you that it is an isolated incident.

I would like to add the following response from the service team to this feed in case other users encounter the same problem:

Please note that our Data Pool ID is unique and can't be changed over time unless one of these 2 actions happened:

1- Delete and recreate data pool with the same name

2- Migrate data (Copy data/ Duplicate the data pool) and then modify the name like previous data pool.

Luckily both actions can be traceable if you keep the audit logs for a long period. You can go to the Admin and Setting page then search for the old pool id and you can see the what actions has been done.

Thanks Conny,

so at the end really good news that change of the Data Pool ID is not possible.

The scenarios described by you are more or less based on creating /copying another Data Pool with a different ID and afterwards rename it to the same name the previous / old Data Pool had.
